ASU members turned out in force to influence the democratic process in the recent Local Government Council elections at the Shire of Broome. ASU members represented 10% of the vote and our strength was clearly demonstrated. Broome Shire ASU delegate, Darcy Buckle, organised members to vote en mass for the most appropriate candidate.
"It is a good day when the Councillor which has the support of members is voted in," said Darcy, "Some of the current Councillors now appreciate that we are rate payers, as well and not just council workers. We have a big say in what is best for our community and the workers of the council."
Darcy predicts that at the October Council elections, members and their partners will represent 20% of the vote and they are planning to support the councillers who do the right thing and have supported them.| < Prev | Next > |
