ASU Members at Real Estate WA recently celebrated the end of successful negotiations for their second Collective Union Agreement. ASU Delegate, Robyn Ferries, had been involved in negotiations previously and knew that the best way to get a fair outcome was to build a solid base of union members - and keep them involved in the negotiation process with regular open and transparent consultation.

Robyn's approach gave ASU members the confidence to know they would achieve their goals in the negotiations.

Under the Howard Government's WorkChoices legislation, Robyn and her colleagues faced the threat of a non-union Agreement, which could lock them out of any pay rise for five years.  Being unionised and organised was the only way to resist this.

ASU members developed a plan to win a collective Union Collective Agreement and then steadily implemented it.  They decided they wanted negotiations with their employer to be firm but conciliatory and this approach was successful.

Congratulations to all our members at Real Estate WA.  They are a great example of what can be achieved by determined, focused and disciplined union members with good leadership.
